About Me

I’ve been employed for about 44 years and worked in the 3 tiers of government – Commonwealth, State and Local Government – and the private sector.

I’ve worked in the Royal Australian Navy and Navy Reserves, WA Police Force, Western Australia Local Government Association’s Road Safety Program – RoadWise, St John Ambulance Australia – Merredin Sub Centre, Department of Fire and Emergency Services/State Emergency Service, a Franchisee of 2 franchises and now as a Certificate IV qualified driving instructor.

There are very, very few driving instructors in the Wheatbelt. Having lived in country wheatbelt towns, I know people need assistance to help get their driver’s licence. I understand that young ones in the Wheatbelt need a driver’s licence to help them on their way – and that’s where I can help.

I’m very firm, but fair with students under manual driving supervision – I have to be. Drivers expect other drivers to know the road rules, road craft and how to drive.

Feel free to contact me by text, mobile phone, or on my Facebook page if you have any questions.

Qualifications and Accreditation

I have been driving for the past 42 years, and hold a current HC (prime mover towing one trailer) and R class (open motorcycle) motor driver’s licence.

After spending over 8 years in the Navy, I joined the WA Police Force in February, 1985.
I qualified in pursuit riding and driving, using various types of speed measuring and breath analysing equipment, and assisted with the taking of blood samples.

Whilst at Police Road Safety Section, I was involved with the planning and delivery of road safety presentations to school students throughout regional Western Australia. The delivery was via a $1.2 million prime mover and semi-trailer, with 17 interactive road safety exhibits, aptly named ‘RoadShow’. I was also qualified to deliver defensive driving theory courses to the public.

In 2000, I joined the WA Local Government Association’s Road Safety Program, RoadWise.
My role was to provide support, advice and assistance to the 26 Local Government Authorities and their communities in the Wheatbelt North Region. I was based in Merredin, and Merredin Shire was my host council. I spent 7 years with RoadWise, including becoming a child restraint checker and a Road Safety Audit Team Member – trained by Main Roads WA.

For about 8 years I was the volunteer Local Manager of Merredin State Emergency Service Unit (DFES/SES).

I was also a Level 2, St John Ambulance Volunteer Officer, based at the Merredin Sub Centre.

In 2007 I re-joined the WA Police Force and worked in Merredin, Southern Cross, Gnowangerup and Mukinbudin, and resigned on 05th Sept 2018, during my second stint in Merredin. In total, I was a Police Officer for about 24 years.

I have successfully completed:
1) Department of Transport WA Motor Vehicle Driving Instructor’s Licence # 8565,
2) Working with Children’s check,
3) Certificate IV in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport Car Driving Instruction) TLI41216,
4) Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessing,
5) Defensive Driving (theory) Instructor’s course, and delivery of same,
6) Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation HLTAID001,
7) Provide basic emergency life support HTLAID002, and,
8) Provide first aid HLTAID003
7) The School Drug Education and Road Aware Project taught me to deliver the ‘Learner’s Permit Test.’

My ‘Honours and Awards’ decorations are:
1) 20 year National Police Medal
2) 35-year National Medal
3) 20 year WA Police Force Medal
4) 4-year Military Service Medal
5) 10 year DFES/State Emergency Service Medal.
